1999 - The website MP3.com filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission for its initial public offering.

1998 - Singer-actor-icon FRANK SINATRA died of a heart attack. He was 82.

1998 - Singer GEORGE MICHAEL pleaded no contest in Beverly Hills Municipal Court to committing a lewd act in a park restroom. Michael did not appear in court and was fined $810, given 80 hours of community service and ordered to seek counseling.

1998 - Ticketmaster group reported it sold 522,926 tickets worth $19.5 million over its Internet site during the first quarter of the year. The firm claimed that was a 270% increase over the previous year where tickets were sold the old fashioned way.

1992 - KISS released the album Revenge, which featured a new drummer, ERIC SINGER.

1988 - Jazz trumpeter and vocalist CHET BAKER died.

1988 - LED ZEPPELIN reunited for Atlantic Records’ 40th Anniversary party at New York’s Madison Square Garden. JASON BONHAM, son of the late JOHN BONHAM, sat in on drums.

1988 - GLORIA ESTEFAN and MIAMI SOUND MACHINE had the number one song with “Anything For You.”

1985 - MICHAEL JACKSON received a humanitarian award from PRESIDENT REAGAN at the White House.

1981 - KIM CARNES had the number one song with “Bette Davis Eyes.” The actress named in the song sent roses to Carnes when the song later won a Grammy.

1977 - The number one song was “When I Need You” by LEO SAYER.

1976 - KEITH RELF, ex-lead singer of THE YARDBIRDS, died of electrocution at age 33 while playing his guitar at home.

1973 - STEVIE WONDER’S “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life” was the number one single.

1970 - CROSBY, STILLS, NASH and YOUNG released Ohio. The release came only 10 days after the fatal Kent State University shootings.

1969 - A van carrying members of the band FAIRPORT CONVENTION crashed on the way home from a gig in Birmingham, England, killing drummer MARTIN LAMBLE and RICHARD THOMPSON’S girlfriend JEANNIE FRANKLYN.

1963 - JIMMY SOUL was at number one with “If You Wanna Be Happy.”

1957 - ELVIS PRESLEY was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after swallowing a porcelain cap from one of his front teeth, which then lodged itself in one of his lungs.
